Providing Quality Statistics for a More Developed Ambon

December 19, 2024 | Other Activities

Ambon, December 18, 2024 — In an effort to enhance data quality for sustainable development, the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) of Ambon City held a socialization and sectoral statistics development event for 2024. Held at the Vlissingen Room, Ambon City Hall, the event featured Angelia A. Saiya, SST, MT, a Junior Computer Analyst from BPS Ambon, as the keynote speaker.

This event aimed to improve the quality of sectoral statistical management in Ambon City through comprehensive guidance and evaluation. Below are the key points discussed during the event:

The Importance of High-Quality Statistics for Development

Angelia highlighted that providing integrated and high-quality data is essential for achieving the Vision of a Golden Indonesia 2045. With data scattered across various government agencies, implementing the One Data Indonesia principle is critical to harmonizing data in support of strategic policies.

World-Class Statistical Management

Participants were introduced to the 10 fundamental principles of official statistics, such as relevance, accountability, and equal access. Official statistics must be independent, objective, and comply with international standards, as stipulated in Law No. 59 of 2024 concerning the National Long-Term Development Plan (RPJPN) 2025–2045.

Sectoral Statistical Quality in Ambon

Sectoral statistics produced by agencies in Ambon City cover various fields, including data on slum housing areas, waste management, agricultural production, and poverty. BPS outlined its development strategy, including measuring the maturity level of statistical management through the Sectoral Statistics Management Evaluation (EPSS).

Statistical Evaluation Results in Ambon

According to the EPSS results for 2024, Ambon City achieved a "Good" rating in the Statistical Development Index (IPS), scoring 2.73. This places Ambon among the top-performing regions in Maluku in terms of statistical management. Evaluated indicators included activities such as compiling job seeker data and collecting horticultural data.

Strategies and Future Steps

BPS provided several recommendations to improve the quality of sectoral statistics, including:

  1. Enhanced Collaboration: Strengthening coordination between BPS and government agencies.
  2. Capacity Development: Increasing the competence of human resources through training, workshops, and mentoring.
  3. Focus on Priority Indicators: Directing statistical data to support national development indicators, such as inflation control and stunting reduction.

Data-Driven Development Direction

High-quality statistics play a strategic role in all stages of development, from planning and implementation to evaluation and control. Through reliable data, Ambon City's development is expected to be more effective and impactful.

This event underscores Ambon City's commitment to promoting digital transformation and reliable data governance. With the support of high-quality statistical data, Ambon City is increasingly prepared to realize its vision of inclusive and sustainable development.
